Complications are rare, but they must be mentioned.
- Complications related to anesthesia
- Hematoma of the auricle, prevented by drainage the following day if present; rugby player's ears are caused by ear hematomas that were not drained.
- Infection of the auricle, or chondritis, is the most serious complication because the cartilage is poorly defended against infection and requires sampling, local treatment, and intravenous antibiotic therapy.
- Suture dehiscence
keloid scarring , which is more common during adolescence. Therefore, it is advisable to operate on children before the age of 12. Local medical treatment (such as corticosteroid injections) or scar revision may be necessary.
Recurrence of the detachment is possible but rare.
