The broken nose
A blow to the nose can cause a nasal fracture or broken nose; this may be displaced, in which case a reduction of the displacement must be carried out between the 3rd and 12th day.
It is advisable to wait a few days for the post-traumatic edema , but beyond 12 days the fracture consolidation takes place in a poor position and simple reduction is no longer possible.
post-traumatic edema
Be wary of the impression of no displacement because the deviation may appear secondarily after the disappearance of the edema; in case of doubt, a radiological assessment by simple x-ray or scan may be useful.

Radiological aspects of nasal fractures

Scannographic aspects of nose fractures
Fracture reduction is a simple procedure most often performed under brief anesthesia lasting 5 to 10 minutes on an outpatient basis (without hospitalization) and requires wearing a cast for one week. It is an orthopedic reduction without incision, the goal of which is to reposition the bone fragments in their original anterior position. Sometimes a dislocated nasal septum is also realigned.
After the 15-day period, it will be necessary to wait at least 3 months before considering a rhino-septoplasty, which will then be a true surgical procedure.
