When facial paralysis develops, the immediate priority is eye protection: medically, artificial tears will be used regularly throughout the day. In the evening, an application of vitamin A ointment will precede nighttime eyelid closure. During the day, wearing sunglasses will be recommended.

The first surgical procedure to be performed will be an asymmetric external tarsorrhaphy, aimed at tightening the lower eyelid: the point anchoring the tarsi together is punctured more internally on the lower tarsus than on the upper tarsus.
